Well see there you go. For many people it was their first experience of 3dfx graphics in gaming.
Though I just like the tribal feel to the game + enjoyable combat. I was half half about the expansion.

Say it right, or don't say it at all.
I have to admit, this thread has got me hankering for some OG Unreal action. It's been many a year since I last played it.
edit: ...and here's Nyleve Falls remade in UE4. Needs more purple and orange in the sky, and maybe a more alien feel overall, but damn if it doesn't make you wish for an updated version of the original Unreal.

An extensive review of both the original "Unreal" and it's expansion "Return to Na Pali" + some stuff on multiplayer. All done from a modern perspective and of how the game shapes up nowadays. Found it to be a good review. Unreal even today is an excellent game worthy of a play.
LGR tends to have interesting stuff from a retro computer and gaming perspective. The oddware series features some "unique" gadgets from time to time.
And Unreal was definitely a major part of my post-Quake gaming. The way you had something in the distance that you made your way towards was a great way to solve the usual issue of "where do I go and how do I get there?" without using waypoints.

Oh for sure. The lighting was fantastic and still even today looks good.
I quite liked their sky graphics, which outdoes much of what you get in FPS games even now. Try looking up into the sky (in Unreal) and look at the realistic cloud effects at play. Most games even present day don't have that.

As good a time as any to get it, if you don't have it already.

oh nice, I don't have to dig for the cd anymore now. lets have a screenshot of the game running on a PowerVR PCX2 graphics card to remember the happy times (or sometimes not so happy, as the artifacts suggest):

Getting good memories from this thread, except for that fucking salamander temple level. Though it was UT that was the big thing for me back then.
Bro, sweet! Got it on CD, but ain't gonna say no to a free GOG copy.
