The one thing I dislike more than a singular ammo type is the way IW displays your ammo level. Am I the only one who finds it difficult to judge how much ammo they have for each weapon? Little lines across the gauge to indicate how much ammo each shot in primary fire mode chews up would be very nice to see in v1.2. Better still...put two little numbers below the gauge. One for # of primary fire shots left, one for secondary fire shots. Oh, and then get rid of all the speckles in the gauge - it looks more like graphical corruption than anything else! (or are they actually meant to be meaningful somehow???)

When the clip icons get down to a few, I'm running low on ammo. I don't see a problem with it.

I think, instead of the ammo for one clip left (since the game has no reload and no obvious distinction between clips, and will in fact use part of the ammo on one clip and go straight into the next if the round uses that much ammo), it should show the total shots left for your ammo pool (for both standard and secondary fire as you mentioned).
Even though they are trying to streamline the game as much as possible and make there to be much less inventory management, I think it would be really useful when you're running low on ammo to be able to scroll through your weapons and be like: "okay, I've either got 7 shots left for the shotgun, or 3 for the sniper rifle, well I can take these guys out in one hit from the shotgun, so it looks like we're going with that", instead of just hoping that the little counter is reading enough ammo for you to take out everyone in the immediate area.
Otherwise I think you make a good point, that there should be some more numerically accurate way of telling how much ammo you have left.
