I been running into a quite annoying problem with my inventory in Ultima underworld. As I got farther down in the game objects started to change, disapear or turn into really strange objects like blood splats. This seems to occour when Im doing things like changing floors.
I tracked a patch but now I get a a message in the text area of the game. "underworld internal error problems in object list. I never got this message before I used the patch. Items persisted to disappear on my orginal saved game, so i started a new game and still get the same error message but nothing has disappeared yet.
Is this message to show you the patch is working? Also has anyone eles run into strange inventory problems?

The inventory problems were largely caused by destroying objects (e.g. in water or lava) and tended to become apparent when you got to level 6 or seven of the abyss.
If you are seeing the "internal errors" message then that means that the object list has become corrupt and you might find some strange things in your inventory.
The only thing that is strange is that the bug was fixed within the first two years of Underworld being released and AFAIk all subsequent releases were of the patched versions. You must be running from a very early copy for this problem to be apparent. If this is not the case then I would suspect that you may have some other problem (e.g. memory errors) that could be giving you similar symptoms.

Seems I am becoming quite adept at resurrecting old threads.
Anyway, I have similar problems as the original poster, though I have not come beyond level 1 of the Abyss just yet.
I started playing UUW a couple of weeks ago, and I had heard of the inventory bug, so I got the patch off the net, and started a new game using the patched exe. But it seems I get that "underworld internal error, problems in object list" message too, using the program file with version number vF1.87S, which I am guessing is the patched one since the other file is vF1.50S.
Has anyone played the game for a longer time with this error message? Will my inventory be fuxxored as I reach lower levels, or is this message just an irritating bug in itself?
I'd hate to play for 20 hours and then have to start over because my inventory transforms into a shivering pile of goblin shit.
I am running this on a 400 MHz computer with Windows 98, and it runs very fine, speed seems to be 100% etc.

I've just checked the version of underworld I have installed from the CD ROM version and it's reporting (via ALT+F7) that it's vF1.94S - so there's definitely a later version than the one you have installed.
I've used the executable from EAs FTP site with the data from the CD ROM version and it gave me an object list error each time it loaded a game. I would suspect you may be in a similar position - i.e. floppy disk executable and CD ROM data.
If you want, PM me with an email address and I'll zip up the executable I have here and send it to you to try.
