I have a question regarding the inventory bug fix for Ultima Underworld 1. Having just installed the patch, uw.exe has now been updated to 9 Feb 1993 (my original uw.exe was dated 17 Dec 1991!).
However, any save game file that I now load or any new file that I save to disk has a curious problem. Whenever I restore a saved game (regardless of whether the saved game was built by the original or patched version), UW reports the following in the player message area:
"Underworld internal error. Problems in object list. Restore Game complete."
This message doesn't seem normal for an issue that was meant to be fixed by the patch. Could someone please tell me what might be wrong here!
Many thanks, in advance.

Hmnn...I tried using that patch recently and got the same error message. I basically reinstalled and didnt bother about the patch as I think my version came out a little later. Ill have to check. At any rate, Ive never had any problem with UW unpatched on my version, and Ive played it loads of times for many years now.

Thanks for the quick response.
I've played the game in the past and always got stuck somewhere between level 8 and 9 by the inventory bug - ie. stuff just isn't where I left it before I save, or stuff just floats in the air - very bizarre.
Anyway, how do I get a later version of UW than the one I own - yes, I have a fully boxed product with 3.5 and 5.25 disks, manuals, the whole deal. Is there some way of getting a more recent copy than my version from 1991?
Please let me know. Thanks.

Well considering that the game isnt for sale any more, and is available for download anyway, I guess that I could send you my version. Its around 4.5 mb. Im stuck with a modem, but if you leave some details, Id be happy to send it to you.

Exactly as you and twisty:
- no problem without the patch
- this silly error message with the patch
=> I don't use the patch and all is fine.

To Petemeat: Recently, a gaming magazine featured a free cdrom with both UW I & II. I happen to have that CD. If you want, I could burn a copy and send it to you via snail mail. Just post your street address.

What magazine was that Drakton? Thats good news as it means that UW2 could probably be placed on TTLG for download as well.

twisty: no it doesn't, I'm afraid... it almost certainly means that this particular magazine paid EA for the rights to include the games, with the expectation that boosted magazine sales from interest in the Underworld games would cover the cost of doing so.
Rather different from the games becoming freeware...

Twisty:
I can't tell which mag featured BOTH UWI and II as there is no indication of it in the cover of the cd, and I'm certain I got that from a gaming mag. What I can tell you for sure is that PCGAMER, JULY 2000 issue, in their disc no 5.10 had UWI full game for free. Again, if someone wants a copy of either one of those cd's just e-mail your snail-mail address. I'll gladly send it to you.
