I have read on some sites that there are cheat codes for UW1, being {F10} and a letter such as Z for changelevel etc
However F10 is the hotkey for sleeping!
Doesnt seem to work for me...
Does anyone know about these cheats, and whether they work or not?

The only cheats that I know of are programs that allow you to modify your saved character. Do a search for Ultima Underworld and you should be able to find some fan pages with links to those files.

Someone wrote a little memory-resident program back in '93 or '94 which enabled the player to use the cheats you described. Apparently, the key commands were transfered to other cheat compilations, so most of them now list those commands as in-game cheats.
