Hi,
I just released the first alpha version of my project "Underworld Adventures". Here is the project's description:
Underworld Adventures is a project to recreate Ultima Underworld 1 on modern operating systems (e.g. Win32, Linux or MacOS), using the original game files. It is developed as Open-Source and uses the GNU General Public License.
For more, feel free to visit the project's site (and of course spread the URL among your friends and Ultima Underworld fans):

Well it ran horribly slow.. But it did run!
This looks very promising.. I think all UW fans would enjoy seeing this baby in action!
I wish you luck with this. ^_^

Hey Vividos, where did you nab your name from? I have heard the name before but I can't quite place it. Wasn't it the name of a villian from a game series made in the eighties?

I tried your little file: it's cool :) but it freezes my PC after a while :(
Eheh, this time, I am the one who complains about crashes :D

twisty: I searched for a name that hasn't "ultima" in it's name (for obvious reasons):) but still tells people what it's about. And I didn't came up with a better one, so I chose it.
Raf: It's still pre-alpha, and it will remain for a while :cheeky: hope some more people test it on their computers.

It runs at 75 fps on my P3@728 MHz and my GeForce 256 DDR.
It seems obvious that no hidden-face removal is performed and that the frame rate could be MUCH increased but I'm conscious it's just a beginning.
Nevertheless, it's pretty nice and I was very happy to hear the music with nice MIDI sounds from my SBlive instead of the SB16 emulation I was used to.
However, I noticed some missing walls (especially in the room after the first door on the right (the one you access the sapling seed room from).
Also, all the 3D objects, especially BRIDGES and DOORS should be included quickly.
Some special textures are not yet displayed (e.g. no stairways to next levels where they should be).
You still have much work to do but it's a good beginning. :thumb:
I hope you won't lose the flame before it's finished, because I think you did the easiest part.

Hi,
xman: This week (after the alpha release) I added quadtree frustum culling, and it increased the framerate on my computer (duron 600Mhz, GeForce2 MX) from about 70 fps to 150-160 fps.
For the walls: yes, there's a tile type (diagonal wall) where the adjacent wall isn't rendered, but it's a minor bug, also the wrong texture coordinates (look at the abyss doors). 3D objects will be done after the 2D objects (critters, NPCs, objects), on which I am currently working.
twisty: the name vividos is from Ultima 8. vividos is a necromancer there and he teaches the avatar the earth magic. Long ago since I played that one :cheeky:
