Once the sun sets, I'm gonna head up to the fire tower on the mountain to get a nice view of the eclipse.

I saw it go all red from the hard shoulder of the M40, where I was busy tying the exhaust pipe back on to my stupid car with a shoelace. It was very pretty - what caused the redness? Go on, help out a guy who's too lazy to google it. I guessed gravitational lensing when I was on the phone to my sister, but that was pretty well just because I'd heard patrick moore mention it and damn, that man impresses me.

Light from the sun scattered through the atmosphere.

Like dvrabel said, it's the light passing through the atmosphere - it's the same light you get at sunset.
