Hello there. I've just recently gotten ahold of System Shock 2 for the first time ever. I was cruising reviews of old games, and it came up as a real gem.
After mashing through various incompatibility issues with WinXP, I've gotten SS2 to work, using a legitimate copy of the game (so please don't tell me that my problem is due to pirating or repacking:p). I've patched it to version 2.3, I've replaced the .EXE with the NOT-A-CRACK WinXP/2000 compatibility .EXE, and I've installed several mods through the Mod Manager (textures, models, sounds, bug fixes). I've figured out to set the CPU affinity to a single CPU, and even adjusted the priority to High or Realtime.
I applied the use mode fix in the Mod Manager tools menu, and have NO TROUBLE using ANY other item at all. I can use chips, guns, even other hypos.
In fact, if I start a new game and walk into the tutorial, I can even use the medical hypo in the simulation with no trouble. But for some reason, even on 1hp, I am unable to use the medical hypo in my saved game.
If there are results on the forum search, I apologize. I used that feature prior to posting, searching for "medical hypo" and even just "hypo", and found nothing relevant.
Thanks for any insight,
...Flambo

Three questions:
1) Did you create your savegame before applying mods/fixes, etc (particularly game system related)?
2) Were you able to use med hypos with the vanilla version of ss2 once you got it functional but before applying all the bells and whistles?
3) Why did you set the cpu priority level to realtime? That causes system instability for me in a lot of the programs I've attempted to do that for.

1.) Yes. I had loaded the mods, but not applied them (hadn't realized there was that extra step) before I had begun my save game. My save isn't terribly far along, so I think I'll try starting from scratch and see if that fixes the problems.
2.) Yes.
3.) I actually think I've only ever set it to high, but some guide somewhere said "High or Realtime", so I repeated their phrasing.
Thanks a bunch!

By "bug fixes", I assume you mean ADaOB (aka the SS2 Community Patch).
This is
not compatible with saved games made from the vanilla game. You need to start a new game after installing it.

If you were previously playing the original game or a version of ADaOB earlier than 0.2.8 then you must start a new game after installing this or you will encounter serious problems.

Yes I do, and no it's not. :] Silly of me to overlook.
Making a new game has solved my troubles. Thanks!
