You most likely don't have the service running and/or the relevant entry in the firewall enabled, drop me a PM if you still need a hand.

well, as I can't log into windows (the message shows on the windows logon screen as soon as I click any profile), I really don't have a way of accessing anything, and as mentioned, the recovery console says the service is running.
installing windows on a spare hdd at the moment, so I'm still open to suggestions. //move complete, so this is low priority now - but still, if someone knows, feel free to post.

Im confused on what machine? the local machine or the one your trying to remote onto..?

not trying to remote anywhere, I just start the pc up, the logon screen loads (two profiles on that pc), I click one/any of them to sign in, pop goes the message and you are done, no windows for you.

Ah ok, what threw me was the "The RPC server" message. I was thinking of RDP, apologies for that.
Can you boot into safe mode, if so the following info might help -
- (

otherwise its backup your data, format the drive and re-install windows.

nope, no safemode either. anyway, already set up on the spare drive, so not a big deal.
