Hi,
after installing Thief 2 and the latest version of the Tafferpatcher I want to start T2 in a compatibility Mode to Win 2000.
But before the game starts, an error message comes up and T2 doesn' start up. Can somebody help me to fix that problem?
Greetings

and do not set any compatibility modes on the exe.

Ok, I've insalled the old version of directx, but there is still directx 11 on my dxdiag. What can I do on that?
I won't use the compatibility mode any more, thanks!

just run the game, no need to care about dxdiag.

So where do I extract the files to?

Just download the dll file and copy it into your T2 directory. You don't need to install Direct X

but you should. not having DX9 installed can cause issues with any number of older games the user might install. no idea why it isn't included by default.

I have been fiddling with this for two days. Downloading and extracting it to Games /Thief 2 directory does nothing. I still get a "unable to locate or load d3dx9_43.dll' message. I even found the individual d3dx9_dll file and copied it to the thief 2 directory. I still get an error message. It's driving me bonkers :wot:

Probably some older version of DX9 is already installed on your system ?
Instead of extracting to Thief2, better try to get DX9 properly installed on your system.
