That's quite a bit of assumption regarding a game that hasn't come out yet.
Dead Space has a bunch of deformed things running around in the open, gurgling for attention while an individual supposedly untrained in combat is blasting them away with ridiculous weaponry. Based on what is shown, this game does not show any evidence of this and relies on denial of knowledge of what one is up against, causing one's imagination to begin constructing the worst scenarios of what is in store.

Do I seriously have to drag out the "what makes a game survival horror" guide
again?
OK, it's an incredibly unsubtle survival horror that has little tension and an abundance of war material lying around, both of which has a negative impact on horror, and casts little doubt on survival.

ITT deth his knickers in a twist because TTK12G3 used the phrase "survival horror" to mean simply "a scary game that you survive in". How could you TTK12G3? :(

Either way it sure does the atmosphere damned well.
Agreed, that was my first thought. Captures the "scifi horror" vibe from SS2 perfectly. I almost thought the first minute was the SS2 training-missions intro re-imagined in UDK.
That being said, the trailer does not leave much explanation of gameplay aside from exploring. Hopefully it is indeed more than Amnesia in Space, and you get some proper fighting/RPGing options akin tho the shocks. IF it's just "run n hide" I'd be a bit disappointed tbh.

And only 3 people in the development team ??? Wow.
Well it doesn't surprise me - with the easy but powerful scripting tools UDK provides, it's not hard to make something awesome and atmospheric IF you're a good artist.

I contend that DS1 was pretty damn terrific in terms of horror and suspense if you played it on the only difficulty level that counts for your first time, which is Hard.
On the other hand, if you mooks are flailing around over what makes a horror game horror-y, go make another thread. Imagination vs. necrophilia is hardly an argument that needs arguing.

How long are you going to keep this piece of theatre going before you play your trump card? And by
trump card I mean that list of "survival horror criteras" that somehow does not include "must be scary". Come on man, let's try to get this over with as soon as possible instead of dragging it out for another 3 pages.

Does reading the thief4 forum count as survival horror?

That game doesn't look very "SS3-ish" to me. More Amnesia in space.
Which makes me think of (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reBzU8E_Ajk) this. Since its one type of game moved into a space station theme.
