Umm. I'm either an idiot or... How do i recharge magical items! - by dracflamloc

I'm kind of annoyed with how they did recharging in this game. In Morrowind the items recharged by themselves over time, so using an enchanted weapon was much more feasible.
In this game, I can use all the charges in my weapon in a single fight(of multiple mobs). So I end up carrying two weapons, one enchanted and one not. I bust out the enchanted one and go super sayen if need be.
In Morrowind I was a pretty heavy duty enchanter. I loved enchanting things and I very quickly became this super unbeatable character that feared nothing. Fights just became meaningless, I swung my enchanted sword a few times, didn't worry about health or fatigue--I had other constant effect enchantments to regenerate all of that--and boy did the game become boring.
So, speaking as someone who loves enchantment and uses it a LOT, I love the changes they did to make it more balanced. Specifically the fact that items no longer recharge on their own. It amazes me how that one, single, tiny change suddenly brought balance to the game. So you have to use your enchanted weapons more sparingly, more strategically. Save it for the 6x sneak strike then switch to something mundane to finish them off. Do you enchant a weapon that does huge amounts of damage for each strike but allows only a few uses, or are you satisfied with something that does far less damage but can be used many more times? I have both. A couple of emergency weapons with enormous damage per strike for those especially tough encounters, plus more mundane versions that do less damage, plus unenchanted versions for most other comabt situations.
It does require you either have a lot of strength to carry the different types of weapons, or you become a serious collector of soul gems and carry a handy supply with you wherever you go.
In any event, I really do love the balance they brought to all of this. You can still make super duper weapons, they didn't cripple that, but there is this new "charge management" issue which keeps you honest.
One change they made that I don't think I like (if it was a balancing issue I don't see how) is how you can only enchant staves to deliver ranged magical attacks. I had so many different enchanted amulets and rings for every type of ranged combat encounter in Morrowind. All gone now. Weapons are strike only and clothing/armor is constant effect only. See, staves are pretty heavy so you can't carry that many, plus you have to switch to them during combat. I'm kind of sad about this change, but not too sad.

btw, you can enchant a weapon with something like this:
Soultrap: 4 seconds
Fire Damage: 36pts over one second
You basically trade 4pts of fire damage for soultrap. This is critical because with the star of azura, you can soultrap every mob you see, hit your star hotkey, recharge the item, and go to the next mob. Kind of a way around the cost of recharging, but makes for a somewhat cool game mechanic, where you literally steal the souls of your enemies.

Oooooh, that's a VERY nice tip! I'm gonna have to get me one of those fancy Azura's Stars sometime soon.

So Welkynd stones recharge mana. But what does a Great Welkynd Stone do? Just is in my inventory listed at Misc, 0 worth and 0 weight and does nothing (if i click it it says "Cant be equipped"). Found it in some ruins called Mysca-something, raised quite some hell when i took it (Spawned some Lich Boss), so its gotta be useful for something...i hope :p
For recharging items, some guy named Vigge does it at the Skingrad Mages guild at around 9-10 am
Edit : My bad, Welkynd, not Varla. Question remains

I don't understand you. First you rave about the new enchantment "balance", and then you get exited about a way to circumvent it.
Anyways, I'm not too happy about the need to recharge your enchanted weapon. Such a chore. So, so far I have just left my daedric long sword unenchanted (have a absorb health sigil stone ready). You can still enchant your armor to make yourself invinsible...

Hmmm...I feel a mod idea coming on. A new spell maybe. I'll have to think about this.

Heh, yeah. You can get 100% chameleon pretty easy in this game. It's funny how the NPCs react to your actions. Kind of like they aren't scripted to handle things apparently moving on their own. They should've made a sound file saying, "What the? Someone is invisible, use the un-invisible spray from your utility belt, batman!"

tuco, I think he misspelled 'invincible'. I don't think he's talking about going invisible. ;)

What Fig455 says... I sometimes mix 's' and 'c' when writing english. However, I have found out that invisibility does pretty much equate invincibility. :cheeky:
