Ultima Underworld and Windows XP?

Is it even possible to run Ultima Underworld under Windows XP?
I'm able to run the setup and what not.. (and as a matter of fact have my sound card detected!)
But the problem is.. On the screen where it says "EMS Memory Detected" it just hangs..
I mean, It doesn't switch to full screen mode and continue to run the game.. It just stays there.
Is this a fault of Win XP or is there something I can do about it? I really wanna play this game again..

I used it to play UW1 and UW2 while waiting for Arx... and it works.
