Dammit Aerothorn you fucked up the thread's continuity right at the beginning. Now sit down and them the two of them have it out.

Zacc, I think we all know by now that the whole Iraq WMD thing was a complete fabrication. It doesn't really matter whether it was written by Alastair Campbell or Mickey Mouse.
I think it would make a pretty big difference if Mickey Mouse wrote it. I mean who would see that coming.

The word you're looking for, dear boy, is "realist".
This is the most cynical, hypocritical, lying bunch of bastards we have
ever seen running the country.
Now who's being naive?

Yeah, even King Arthur and the Knights Of The Round Table had trouble ruling Britain properly. It all ended in some sort of sex scandal, didn't it?

I seem to remember Blair saying the same thing in person at the time.

I fucked up? At least I only posted in the topic once unlike certain portable soapboxes!
You know, as opposed to cement soapboxes that are too heavy to move.

It comes to something when I'd rather see the Tories win the next election than this lot.
I'm keeping this quote stored away safely. :ebil:

In response to anyone with a solid stance on whether there were or were not WMD present in Iraq at the beginning of the invasion:
The only thing I really do believe is that the government and the media are probably lying no matter what they're saying. Even if they're stating facts that happen to be true, they're probably spinning it so that people will believe them in a certain way.
But I know people who were privvy to the sattelite photos of shipping trucks headed out of Iraq and into (was it Libya?), so as far as Iraq having WMD goes, I don't really know what to say. We did order them to disarm, and if they shipped everything out, then I'd think that would be good enough to prevent all-out invasion. (And then again, our inspections never found anything anyway. I think I recall some statement about radiation detected by sattelites, though. Not sure.) But yes, we did change our justification for invasion mid-stream from WMD to "liberation."
So, now that the middle east is safe and free...
But this thread vexes me. Do we really need news articles to tell us *GASP* THE GOVERNMENT MAY NOT BE ACTING WITH TRUTHFUL/HONORABLE INTENTIONS? To get just a bit more on topic, since there has been some discussion of voting, any political "party" should be immediately and completely distrusted. "Party" implies "agenda." "Agenda" implies "not in your best interests."
And on the topic of heavily armed nations over there: I don't mean to ask "What's the big deal?" But I do have to ask "Where's the big surprise?" Any country over there claiming to be disarmed should invite immediate suspicion, but everybody's suddenly like "OH SHIT LATE BREAKING NEWS IRAN SUDDENLY HAS SHARPENED STICKS POINTED AT THE HEART OF THE UNITED STATES." There's been constant conflict over there, with the last set of sparks having started just after WWII and blazing still today.

What vexes me is that people are so willing to accept it.
How many labour voters thought that Blair had lied/deceived and they
still voted for his party? It makes me sick.
