My favourite bit of that story is that it's not, apparently, unique to the sun: the irish branch of ITV ran a story about footage of "IRA members shooting down a UK helicopter using Libyan-supplied RPGs".
Footage that was...surprisingly in need of antialiasing. And featuring a helicopter from which 10 guys leaped out and parachuted to safety in about 2 seconds, twenty metres above the ground.
Because it was ARMA2.

I don't think anyone actually mistook that for real footage, more likely they used the videogame footage as a placeholder and then forgot to replace it when they made the final version of the video. As someone who does videoediting for a living, I can only sympathise. :erg:
