Hi all,
I've been reading this board for quite some time(System Shock was the reason I came here in the first place though) and now that I've finally finished Deus Ex I have a few questions.
The first one is about the UC emergency chamber doors in Area 51. I know the code now(googled for it) but I did not find it in game and did not use it to beat the game. Is there a place where the code is noted? Or are there hints pointing at it? Or is it just a matter of finding it in the skripts?
Another question is about the 'lab 12'/graytest login I found. It never worked on any terminal I tried in Area 51. I ended up hacking the consoles to deactivate the environmental generators for the grays before I entered. Did I miss something here too?
And finally I want to recommend the shifter mod. After disabling the kill based skill point gain I'm absolutely impressed with it. A few things that aren't so apparent at first:
You can pickup bodies even when you don't have room for the equipment they carry. The first click strips the equipment when you don't have room for it and then you have an empty body you can carry.
The laser pointer got fixed. The bullet still goes where the laser points but now it wanders! I realize that is making it far less usefull but honestly the current mode was just exploiting a bug. ;)
Then there is the cycling through weapons of the same class. What I mean is that when you hold a gas grenade for example you can cycle through the other grenades with a key. You don't have to use a precious hotbutton for every type or pick it up from in the inventory. Same goes for lockpicks/multitools and melee weapons for example.
That should be enough though. If you plan on playing DX again give that mod a try. It is really neat.

One of them is an easily guessable 1234, IIRC. I can't recall the others.
[EDIT] They're all 1234.

The login and password are the wrong way around. The actual login is graytest, and the password is 'lab 12'.

Hm, apparently I suck at guessing keycodes it seems...but thanks for the reply!
And it's rather unfair to switch the login/PW for that. I should have thought about that as a login with a space would be unique though. Looks like I have to play it again. :)

One of the flaws with the kill-based point system is if you start hitting a bystander with a crowbar they turn into an enemy, so if you continue you get points for it!

Alex Jacobson transmits you a message in which he says the first three digits of the code, and the last digit had to be guessed by the player.

He's talking about the UC door codes, not the codes for the blue reactors.

Nameless Voice is right. I already have the codes(got listed here too) but my question was whether I could find them ingame or is it just guesswork.
I am reasonbly sure that they aren't stated in the game. So it all boils down to guesswork then and I'm impressed how somebody could guess 1234. Or maybe it was just a matter of try&error. Anyways thanks for the replies.

'1234' and '12' were the most common code in Deus Ex...

Oh yeah, you're right - I should pay more attention :o
Well in that case, I THINK they might've been on some datacube, but I'm not sure.
