I'm half convinced that I'm the only person in the world who actually
liked Monster.
I'm with you, I like it too. Sure, it's not as "alternative" or "edgy" as their earlier stuff, but it's still good rock and roll. Hell, I liked Pop too.
It's inevitable that once a band reaches the level where they're playing arenas & stadiums, all the hipsters (this board is full of them) deem the band no longer cool enough to listen to or acknowledge.

Plus Monster had 'What's the Frequency, Kenneth?' AND 'Crush with Eyeliner' on it, which are still two of their best songs. Good christ did they love their fuzzy tremolo at that point though, I'd forgotten about that.

Too many veiled references to bono's little fellow, if you see what I mean. Even the album title.

Might have been a little too harsh but only because I love Kenneth. The only song I could have named was Eyeliner, and that only because I just heard it the other day playing as muzak. The rest of that album all blends together into mush, and is the first that really doesn't measure up to their legacy. (I'm torn on Automatic - I find it unlistenably maudlin, but respect it even where I don't like it)
