Hey, smokingfox - You might want to re-post this in the T2X forum. Duncan and addink are geniuses with these types of problems and they drop by there pretty often. I wish I could help, but I don't know much about installation problems. Good luck!

Does your computer restart when playing any other game? Or just the thief games?
If it is just the Thief games then it is an odd one. Especially given the Thief3 is doing it to.
My suggestion for now is to search for and uninstall the "VP3 Codec" as that is the only thing T2X has installed on your system (providing you chose to install it). After that, make sure that all thief games have been completely removed. Then reinstall Thief2, apply all the standard fixes found on these forums to make it work with modern hardware (ddfix, etc.), and then attempt to play it. Focus on getting Thief2 to play again before worrying about T2X.
As for the "Thief Collectors Edition" bundle and version 1.09, I am not familiar with it and do not know if there is any problems when trying to use that version with T2X (which was made with the original Thief2 v1.18). I would also think it is safe to safe that trying to install the regular patch with the "collectors edition" would likely be a bad thing and possible break something.

If it is the same collectors edition that's just been released last summer (with TG rather than T1) I've got it and got T2 patched to 1.18 with no problems. So it's worth a trying 1.18.

should i use regcleaner? to get is out of my PC?
further i can put the safe files in another directory? or will it be infected
and yes my collector edition had T1gold forgot to mention
+ i also deleted the vopec which i installed with T2X so i really don't know what's happend
what size is the 1.1v file?
forgot to mention i also have thief 1 and 2 on 1 disc and thief 3 single is it of any use to install it from there?
because the collectors did not play i had to reinstall to play from this CD.

This is exactly why I pointed smokingfox to this forum. I can't fathom why Thief3 should break permanently on a system during the installation of a mod for Thief2 that basically consists of a folder of data files. Something broke, but what and how remains to be answered.
@smokingfox: do other games play like they should?
An idea (others might confirm/deny the Thief3 lowres prowess):
IIRC Thief3 starts out using a very low resolution (perhaps 640x480?) , as do the other two games (definately 640x480). Could it be a video driver issue causing a system reset whenever a low resolution is invoked?

Can you do a system restore to a point before the T2X installation, just to rule out a hardware issue--because it really sounds like a hardware issue (video card, or even the DVD drive)?
smokingfox on 6/4/2010 at 20:19
no i did not make a backup
and about the disc dvd drive its not broke because auto play etc works i can install games etc
as soon as the intro movie start loading (i think) its resets my whole pc
but do i have to reinstall me graphic software? to get that fixed?
