Two Problems..Vista and Games (They are separate surprisingly...) - by LancerChronics

Problem 1) Vista sucks horribly. Explorer (each time i empty recycling bin), Event calendar, my audio, and some control panel apps keep crashing repeatedly. And my Vista did not come with Window 7 RC1 like it said it would. :( At least I have the free upgrade... Just got to survive to october, but if anyone knows a solution to the crashes, it would be helpful.
Problem 2 - GTX285) I'm getting these horizontal grainy lines appearing only in games that I play, making the games look like they are on an old TV, or it's a scene from a bad horror movie. Searching the internet says that this has to do with the 3D option/drivers that are out for the card. By 3D, I mean you wear a special set of glasses and it gives the game world depth. However, I have 3D off. How do I delete just the 3D portion of the driver? Also, any other potential solutions if that doesn't work?

try a fresh vista install
I've been using it for 18 months and its been running flawlessly. I use Nvidia though not ATI so I don't know the specifics of the driver problems.

If this was on XP, the first answer would be "bad hardware". OMG VISTA SUX etc.
As for the 3D thing, I would suggest removing all traces of the driver in Safe Mode (yes, Vista has a safe mode) and reinstalling, hopefully the 3D component is optional.

Well the only hardware that I could think of that would affect an OS app like Windows Explorer would be either my RAM or my Harddrive. Since both seem to be working fine with other programs (..except Vista)....and all of the bad hype surrounding certain OS systems (aka Vista). Therefore, I have to assume the problem is with Vista. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I am starting to believe all the complaining. And I used to be one of the skeptics. Maybe Vista just doesn't work on certain selections of parts, so some get lucky and some don't.
Tried the driver thing, but never gave me the option. People have mentioned deleting only the 3D portion of the driver, so hopefully it is possible for me.

Regarding the driver, you could try deleting the whole thing and then installing a different version. I haven't used it before, but a lot of people recommend (

As for Vista, dunno what to say. If you're sure it's not a hardware, maybe have a look to make sure your HDDs are defragmented, and make sure that you don't have anything like an antivirus messing with your system. Or an actual virus for that matter. Been using Vista for two years and it's served me well. Sure, it's not perfect, but I like it better than XP overall. I genuinely regard the upcoming W7 as a full-fledged upgrade for my system, not as a "patch" for Vista, as some are inclined to bash it.
