I reinstalled Deus Ex (GOTY edition) yesterday, and I'm really looking forward to finally playing this game after I finish NOLF. (Yes, I'm way behind on my gaming, but better late than never.)
I have a couple of quick questions about configuring the game. It appears that the maximum resolution that the game allows is 1280x960. Is it possible to manually increase the resolution beyond this? Also, the HUD takes up far too much real estate, but I couldn't find a setting in the menus to control the HUD size. Can this be tweaked to shrink it down to a more reasonable size?

I don't know why you'd want a higher resolution than that, and I don't know how to increase it beyond that, mostly due to the manner in which the Hud is shrunk. As you go up in resolution, the hud size goes down (or more precisely, the number of pixels stays the same) so beyond 1024 x 768 it's nearly impossible to read anything on the screen (unless you happen to be blessed with some kind of 25 inch monitor or something).

I was able to put it to 1600X1200 on my laptop, so maybe its a video card/driver/directx or opengl thing. The HUD sizes are pretty much fixed, with them big at 640x480 and 1290x960 and small at 1024x768, 1100xwhatever and 1600x1200. Try getting the latest video card drivers, and the latest patch (don't know if GOTY is latest version), thats all I can say.

I run mine in DirectX mode at 1600 X 1200.... with AA and AF maxed out. Don't have to "cheat" to do that for me... Don't know why you couldn't, are you running in software mode or something?
My specs:
AMD XP 2700
ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe
Audigy 2
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
512 mb Ram
Belkin Nostromo Speedpad (ooohhh yeah, I LOVE it in this game)

Nope, it's definitely hardware mode. Even when I set my desktop res to 1600x1200, the max resolution available in the game display settings is 1280x960. I guess I'm the only one that has this issue. I edited the DeusEx.ini file by hand to change the resolution to 1600x1200, but I got some chop at the contaminated water section of the training level, so I'll have to run it at a lower resolution to get a smooth framerate at all times. Bummer.
