Cheers.
I note some of them apparently use a single cable USB method for the keyboard and mouse to each PC, rather than a straight pass-thru method. That would explain any reports of latency problems I think. Simpler ones don't seem to have the same worries.
Now I hit the other annoying thing: I have a USB mouse but still a PS2 keyboard. All the ones I can find that are cheapish are all USB or all PS2. They start getting expensive if they're fully decked out with both (and start getting other features that add cost and I won't use. Video's already redundant. Then they get multi video and audio and stuff.) Sigh. I like my keyboard. Adapters are apparently tricky since a simple one apparently won't be properly detected at boot (fine for windows. troublesome for BIOS settings). Proper ones are hard to find and cost nearly as much as a new keyboard.
oh well

There are usb to PS/2 adapters readily available for mice, so there shouldn't be any problem going with a PS/2 KVM. I've had at least five lying around at one point, mainly from buying HIGH END GAMING GEAR (lol).

Well, since I can envisage lots of occasions I don't want both of them running, in the end I went for an Aten USB switch and a ps/2 to usb adapter for the keyboard.
Aten do make one that's ps2 and USB that's small and cheap, but no one in the country seems to stock it ("Pfft, Who the hell has that combination?!? Geeez").
Mostly it works great. Except fooooooooor games. Now something in the chain (my money is on the ps2-to-usb adapter) has decided that it doesn't like two keys being pressed down at once. It'll do combined keypresses ok, but after that all input stops and waits for you to let go and re-press. Try playing, say, Mirror's Edge when you can't hold down fuckingRuuuuun the entire time. The whole momentum thing really doesn't work.
*sigh*. I'm going to have to and get a usb keyboard now aren't I? (they aren't expensive. It's the pile of useful-yet-redundant stuff increasing that bothers me most)
