Hi everyone ,for the last couple of years ive been using a panasonic 42 inch tv and for thief it was great . I cant recall the exact make but it wasnt lcd display .. ithink. Anyway I have a slightly larger panasonic given to me .I didnt think there would be a problem. Well there is the huge problem of "fluctuating brightness " that cant be turned off (its noting to do with c.a.t.s. or eviromental light settings). Obviously as a long time thief play this is a nightmare situation. So i was wondering if any could save me the risk of buying a new hdtv and blindly hoping this issue is note present and suggest a 40 inch upwards sized tv for my thief pleasure .Also i found some issues on lcds with wot seemed like a ghost/blurring affect which wasnt so good .Thank you in advance :thumb:

aside from a backlight/hardware issue with the tv itself (read: broken), check power cable and/or data cable to the tv.
The only other thing I can think of is a hz and/or resolution incompatibility. Check the specs on the tv and see that windows settings and thief settings do not exceed them. Often enough, a monitor/tv we think should be 1080 is only 720 even though windows lets us set it to 1080.

Thanx for the reply. The actual picture on the tv is excellent .Am playing thief in 1920 x 1080p and other resolutions are fine. I just wanna buy a new tv that does not have the flutuating brightness built in .Panasonic claim its a feature not a design fault . I would like to know wot tv sets people are using to enjoy thief .Otherwise ill be going into the stores with my pc to test tvs out lol:D

I'm going to move this thread to Thief Gen as it's not really about FMs.

I hope you don't get giddy but I've moved you again. Not all the experts in this area visit the Thief forum so this is probably a better place for your question.

Consider the backlight feature is on tvs with a different name in the menu, like Adaptive contrast management (ACM), Dynamic contrast ratio (DCR), Automatic Gain Control (AGC) or other fancy moniker/mnemonic to do the same thing. Panasonic tv seems to like calling it AGC in its Picture menu, and has nothing to do with c.a.t.s. as you mentioned. As ValmontPhl said, ghosting is common if your video and power cables are loose or damaged.

I have to start looking for a new TV for myself, so now is as good a time as any.
Whats your budget and what online places do you prefer to buy from..?

If I were in your shoes, I would buy a used 42" 1080p Panasonic plasma TV on eBay. Plasmas and OLEDs tend to be better at rendering dark scenes, and in low light conditions (i.e. dark room), and don't have restricted viewing angles. In other words, good for Thief. Plasma TVs are dead in the market because Joe consumer values size, thinness, and brightness over picture quality. And OLEDs are only available in large, high end TVs. There are plenty of people who have gotten something bigger and are looking to unload their 42" Panny sets on eBay, so they can be found for <$200.
