Quick update: I've ended up going with Al_B's suggestion after finding out that the audio via ARC isn't actually higher quality than via digital or optical cable. And, lo and behold, not only has this solved the remote control annoyances, it's also resulted in my TV recognising not just the AV receiver connected to HDMI4 (which meant I had to manually adjust the settings depending on what I was using, e.g. Movie settings for the Blu-ray player and Game settings for the PS4), it actually recognises whichever source the receiver is currently showing, i.e. it automatically changes the settings according to whether I want to watch a Blu-ray or play some games. Yay!
