The settings to make the arrow only stick into wood seem to be intact in the "undeleted" archetype. Still playing around with the rope deployment. Hopefully soon I will have something that works.

Yeah, I keep forgetting to look at the deleted archetypes too.

The settings to make the arrow only stick in wood are actually there in the tutorial version of the arrow - the problem is just that the colision spawn link seems to delete the arrow whenever it colides, even if the arrow 'should' stick. Anyone who manages to solve this is a genius. :thumb:

The arrow doesn't disappear with the approach I've taken. I can frob the arrow directly and have it go back in my inventory. :)
I'll post screens of all the settings I currently have.

This is the part of the tutorial I have the most trouble with. Perhaps I'm just not reading it correctly.

Creating the Rope
Open the Static Mesh Browser, select SETDRESSING -> Ladders -> GENrope16 and place one in your map (doesn’t matter where, it’ll be deleted later anyway).
I can get the rope to appear in the map without issue.
Quote:
Now open the texture browser and Import All Matlibs. Then go into T3_GEN and select the texture GEN_ROPE.
I'm okay here as well.
Quote:
Find your rope in the 3D window and ALT-Leftclick it – this will apply the rope texture.
This is where I'm confused. Which window does this refer to? ALT-left clicking in the map window doesn't seem to do anything. Alt left clicking in the static mesh browser does something, I'm just not sure if it's the right thing. :)
Quote:
You then need to right-click the rope, expand the Static Mesh menu and click Add New Skin (or something like that – I can’t remember the exact name - could someone post it in here). Call your new skin something obvious, like ‘Rope’.
I'm totally lost at this point as I can't find anything in the static mesh menu similar to this command. Does this static mesh menu appear in the menu that pops up when I right click? This would seem logical but I can't find the appropriate command to add the texture.
Any help would be appreciated. :) I feel we're close to a breakthrough.

The tut is refering to this:
Quote:
To apply a texture to a static mesh
You can pick a texture and apply it to a static mesh using the Alt-Leftclick combo. (Although, it keeps the same UV mapping so it sometimes looks weird). Then add the skin under the static mesh right click menu. If you don't add the skin to the static mesh, it will not be stored.
Here's the (
http://www.ttlg.com/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=Texturing) wiki .
All the way at the bottom of the properties are the textures the meshes use.

Hey now, I'm no newb. I know enough to read the wiki before asking. I've read that over numerous times as well but to no avail. I thought there may be something not properly represented in the wiki. As far as I can tell, I'm following everything to the letter. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Says even less about it in the wiki. I mean, it seems pretty damned straight forward. I just don't get what is keeping me from getting this to work.

Sorry, I know you're not a newb & I know it's easy to overlook something so I assume that's what you did. Let's see if I remember this right:
1. Place the static mesh actor on the map.
2. Find the rope texture in the browser & highlight it.
3. AltLeft click the rope mesh & if the texture shows on the mesh then:
4. Right click the mesh & at the very bottom there's:
>Static Mesh>all the choices you have for textures
5. There should be "add" in the menu
6. dialog pops up to give it a name
7. & you'll probably need to publish the texture
hope that helps

Still can't get the rope texture to appear on the static mesh. :(

I guess since I'm unable to get the texture to appear on the mesh that is why I don't get the "add" prompt.

So, does this have to be done in an existing map...or can I just create a new session and drop the rope static mesh in there and apply the texture to it?
Thanks for the help.
I'm about ready to give up to be honest, this is just frustrating me beyond belief. It's so simple...but so agonizingly difficult. GAH.

I tried to apply the texture while it was highlighted but it didn't work. So I clicked on an empty spot in a non-textured view so nothing was highlighted.
Then I was able to AltLeft click the texture onto the rope. Now it has an "Add skin" under the Static Mesh menu.
In other words:
Don't highlight the SM you want to skin.
