Know absolutely nothing about current status but my Technics turntable was still working perfectly after 25 years, never needed anything except a new stylus a couple of times. Its quality stuff - or was.

That being said, my girlfriend just got me an Audio-Technica AT-PL120 for Christmas. After I finally put it together, balanced the tone-arm, inserted the cartridge, and put on Before and After Science, I kind of got a little bit of a boner it sounded that amazing. This one doesn't have an automatic tone-arm that lifts when you're done playing, and it is aimed somewhat at DJs in the sheer amount of pitch control it offers (all the way from 26RPM to 94RPM, forward OR reverse play), but it sounds absolutely amazing for ~$300.
This thread got me thinking about my old worn out TT and after a good bit of research I decided to go with the AT-PL120. I will almost certainly upgrade the stock cartridge. But it will be nice to have a TT that keeps a constant speed. My old one would be fine for a while and just warble out of the blue from time to time.
262 from radio Shack with standard shipping. Should be here in a few days.
