I show up in the middle of London (60 miles South). The hot date offers are in Fakenham and that's 60 miles NE. :(
How do you know this as there are no names? Hot dates!
I know as David said it shows the nearest server,so none where I am.
David on 12/2/2009 at 15:25
The 'hot dates' they are referring to are nothing to do with the map, but rather adverts on websites that offer 'Hot dates in $YOUR_AREA', where $YOUR_AREA is the town or city you live in. These are usually fairly accurate, indeed they are likely to be more accurate than the database that we are using as they will be a commercial database, and may well have data direct from the ISPs.
mxleader, you will appear on the map, just not where you think you should. The map is only a general idea and primarily works on the last 'big' centre your ISP has before it goes local. For some people this will be pretty accurate - within a few miles. For others it will be within 25 miles, and for some people it will be way off.
It is only for a general indication of the positions of people on the forums, and should not be taken as anything like accurate.

So, David, if I don't appear on the map then I'm not in any general area and I won't get any hot dates.
Hmmmm....
Brings in a question of existence, doesn't it.
Are you God?
...if you are, can you cure a backache? How about a hangover?

That makes sense since is shows a marker in Seattle and I am about 25 miles south. Of course that marker may cover several people in my area. Now I am happy because I might actually exist. :D

I'm surprised that, as big as metro Houston is, I've only seen 2 markers in the area, me & somebody in Sugarland. Anybody willing to claim the Sugarland marker?

Why do you give a shit? You aren't my grandparents. ;)

For the same reason anyone on the net will care about your physical details. I wanna hold your hand.

I went to a metal festival in Sugarland once, and speaking of scotch had a wild time, and ended up waking up in the park ... But I don't think the marker is me; I think I would have remembered leaving it there.
