TTLG Mobile... - by Albert

Now I know we have this:
(
http://www.ttlg.mobi/) http://www.ttlg.mobi/
But what about something like (
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=174375) this?
Eh? Eh? I'd really love to be able to check and post on the forums out on my... Motorola (Yes, it's a hand-me-down...). So, is it possibly feasible?
Er, did I put my thread in the wrong forum? what's with the "moved" thing?
SubJeff on 11/8/2009 at 07:35
Yes, it was in the wrong forum.
The current mobile site allows me to go to full version and post from there. Does your phone not have that ability?
David on 11/8/2009 at 07:55
The small vb still uses the vB engine, which is mighty slow compared to the mobile version we have at the moment, which is truly lightweight, because it doesn't have to do as much as the full version (permission checking etc etc).
I do plan on adding the ability to log in and post, and would consider a 3rd party system, but I have yet to be convinced by anything I have seen, especially given that vB 4.0, which is a complete rewrite, is entering Alpha testing imminently, which could render the add-on useless in a few months.

Unless you are specifically catering for phones that will only be able to view the mobile site - i.e. those that cannot do "View full version" - I wouldn't bother. The current solution is fine imo and unless you are v keen on having a degradable site there will soon be no need since mobiles are becoming advanced enough. Albert, have you tried the method I use?
David on 11/8/2009 at 09:01
Oh, I'm not really worried about phones not being advanced enough, it's just data connection speeds and javascript engines that are the pain at the moment. A lightweight posting engine would be nice, but you are right in that it isn't a necessity. It's well down the List of Stuff.

Thanks, David. That pretty much answered my question.
Hopefully our current system will evolve to allow something like being able to log in and post.

So now that vB 4.0 is out and the forums are upgraded, is this any closer to becoming a reality? I realize you're probably still working on the main forums, I'm just curious. The reason I ask is that I'm back to using the mobile site at school, since apparently IT caught on to me using ttlg.ttlg.mobi to access the regular forums and blocked it.

Also, stickies don't show up on the mobile forums, and spoiler tags seem to be broken in Chrome (all they show is a blue box around the spoiler).

Same with mobile Safari.
