TTLG main page... - by Goldmoon Dawn

I am excited to see things happening at TTLG, especially with fresh news. I just don't like the current home page because it is difficult for me to focus on the writing. I must be getting old or something.

And yet, perhaps not. There is something about your personal situation that makes you feel this way, and that makes you an individual like all the rest.
Fortunately, while recent intel seems to indicate new findings in the works for the front page, something tells me that Dan isnt going to just forget about it, and strand you with the current placeholder. :cheeky:

Scots is totally right, as usual. The 'Golden days' are gone, will never return, whatever they were. This site is a gaming site first and foremost, gaming has changed in dramatic ways since the heady pc days of 2000, so people have changed. Of course except the people who have been here forever. And there ya go, people who want the old whimsical forums, and the more realistic people who want GAMING UNTIL YOU DIE

I'm not afraid of changing the look of TTLG, I just can't, for some reason, focus on the main page because of the color contrast or something. I don't really care if the format changes or whatever. I simply cannot view some pages due to the background and font color. Some of it has to do with being color blind. White background and black font is about the only thing I can view without difficulty. I even have trouble playing some video games because of the color issue.

As much as I applaud Kolya's constructive take on the state of TTLG, ultimately I've reluctantly come to agree with Scots. For good or for bad, there was once a cumulative mass of nervy banter and quality discussion that is simply no longer here, despite the many awesome posters still contributing.
Maybe TTLG will get it back, or at least something else worthwhile to replace it. Hopefully a new guard will rise up to breathe new life into these halls and make it their own. It's entirely possible, especially if we old timers grant the space to let it happen. Whatever the case, the TTLG of old was a thing to behold while it lasted and it's been an honor serving alongside those I was lucky enough to consider my friends.

Grimoire: Speaking of ages-old vaporware, this self-described (
http://grimoiresystems.com.au/goldenera/) Wizardry-killer (from back when this meant anything to anyone) is apparently very close to release this time, a bit like in 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2006. Will noted fallout shelter owner Cleve Blakemore really finish it before the bombs begin to fall? Will it really be the ultimate mid-90s CRPG that unseats Crusaders of the Dark Savant from its throne? And will we still care now that most of us who still know about it are bitter, jaded old men? Stay tuned.
I am so glad this made it to the front page. I laugh so hard everytime I read it. :cheeky:

I'd say the main reason you don't see that witty banter anymore is because everyone now knows each other. After years and years of shooting the shit and talking smack, the core group of people that remain here have more or less become friends. This makes TTLG less like a forum, more like a club. The only thing missing are the complimentary hotwings.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it doesn't necessarily mean TTLG is dying. But it is stagnant. What we're seeing on the forum now will be what we'll see three years from now. The same ole shit from the same guys hanging out. Cool in its own way, but I would like to see some new members popping up to stir things up a bit, like in the old days.
As to how we should do that, well...I have no idea. But I'll wholeheartedly support any effort you all make to draw more people here.

I am not saying that it should be obvious or anything, but I think Dan is onto something here... :cheeky:

Tim Stellmach folks... :ebil:
I mean, anyone who can say they were a part of Ultima: Underworld, System Shock, Thief: The Dark Project *and* Deus Ex is a legend in this industry.

Once again, excellent work on the front page! Nice work fett, the question is: how long can you keep up such quality work!
