Well I am loving it. Since I always visit the main page first when I come to TTLG, I have been like a freakin' kid in a candy store.

And Brethren, I like you man, and I more or less agree with your post. However, perhaps it would be more prudent to come up with some ideas and send them off to the powers that be! At the end of the day, the efforts that these guys have put into the main page is a hell of a lot better than coming here day after day for literally years with no changes at all.

I second that. Nothing makes a site look more dead than a NEWS section that's a year old. At least throw something up there until something more certain and substantial can be figured out.

Don't get me wrong, the news stuff is good. The only thing that could possibly be clarified here is what should be posted and what shouldn't, and where to draw the line. Is it only game news somehow related to or connected to LGS legacy games? News connected to an existing forum here, or is only a mention in one thread enough? Or is it any and all gaming news, no matter the platform or genre?

The extended thread summary posts though, imo, just clog up the front page. They should probably be summarized more concisely, or the page should be set up where only the first paragraph or two is visible, and the user can click on it to get a separate page with the complete article. As it is now, I think it will possibly just deter people from reading further down the page.

Clicking through for an article on a separate page will come with some actual new code for the site. The current design can support such things, but it requires considerable more time to implement than what I currently have to offer - a few minutes at the end of my lunch break about twice a week.

Something Dan and I also discussed (and I've mentioned previously) is that with DX3 and T4 coming out, we're going to get a lot of exclusive console gamers coming to ttlg looking for walkthroughs, cheats, etc. Not because we're more popular than 1up or whatever, but because on some search engines (last time I checked) ttlg is in the top ten hits for both of those series. There's some actual depth of discussion in gen gaming on issues that may not have occurred to newcomers of those titles. For now, it's just something to get the front page kick started, but with the release of new stuff from EM, Arkane, and Irrational in the near future, I think it's just good to have some fresh articles and discussions up - even if a few are just culled from the good threads in gen gaming.

Don't worry, it will take them no longer than a few seconds to realise that there's nothing to find here but a bunch of defensive natives and they'll be gone. The golden keywords will drop from google in favour of some other site and we can all die peacefully. :rolleyes:
