Ahhh...so these are for other websites to link to the forums here by, say, clicking on or near the image.

Great, I post my creations as a friendly thing to share with everyone, but I get ridicule and smartasses.:tsktsk:  I guess some people can't appreciate it when other people are a bit inventive and want to show their work.:tsktsk:
thanks very much gingerbreadf***ingman.

I suppose they could be.
They were actually just for show, or maybe with a hint of wishing that they might use one of the images.
guess im through posting any more pictures since you assholes can't be nice.

Aw, come on. Ridicule and smartassery is somewhat expected with actions like these.
There's nothing wrong with posting the results of ones creative mind. But once you start hinting that they're good enough to be used by others, expect them to be evaluated.
In my opinion these logos really aren't all that appealing, and looking at the other responses, this opinion is shared. The logos look like there's no effort put into them at all.
If your looking to improve your skills in this department, start out with a project that doesn't _require_ others to like the result. Post the results of that project and ask what everybody thinks. You might even get some practical hints and tips.
I noticed you have your own site, use that as a platform to develop your skills.
Graphic design is not something anyone can do well from day one. It involves a lot of skills and it helps if you've got a talent in some of them. But most importantly: to get the full picture right it simply requires a lot of practice.
sNeaksieGarrett on 8/9/2007 at 16:57
Wow, the nerve of some people. I don't claim to be a fucking good graphical artist, but those are decent. Come on, especially the ones towards the bottom.
NO EFFORT? Are you fucking kidding? I did put effort into them. I admit they aren't top notch material, but seriously. Yes, criticism will come, but construcive criticism is better than a smart ass response saying "what the fuck is this shit" or "you suck", etc.
I used Paint.NET for these, and I actually fooled around a bit with the effects. Yes, they were done in a short amount of time. I'm aware they aren't that good, but to say that they are crap or that there was no effort just isn't fair.
Ok, so the first ones I posted are pretty low quality, but if you look at the last three ones, you have to admit those are pretty good at least.
addink on 8/9/2007 at 19:16
The last three ones are indeed a lot better than the first ones. But they could be a lot better. They have nothing that lifts them upto or beyond the level of current logo (hence D'Juhn Keep's and The_Raven's parodies of the first concept).
On the topic of effort: if something is done in a short amount of time, it's practically impossible to have cost a lot of effort. And I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, this is the first time you've actually used that software and that a lot of the effort went into figuring out the software, instead of designing the logo.
When posting stuff like this do keep in mind that a number of people on this forum use image editing software on a daily basis, some actually making a living off it. "Fooling around with effects" is actually quite recognizable.
All this really wouldn't have mattered if you wouldn't have hinted that they were good enough for webmasters to implement.

Like I mentioned in my other post, get your feet wet doing something that doesn't directly require the approval of a large group of people.
Design a logo for your own site, heck, design 20 _completely_ different ones, pick the five best ones, try to improve those. Pick the two best of those and improve some more. Then select the logo your most happy with, the one that represents you best.
As with any logo, keep in mind that there are numerous situations you might want to apply it, and that in all situations the logo should be roughly the same or at least be recognizable: Larger on the home page, smaller in the header of a content page, tiny and square as a favicon, printed in B&W, on a flyer, as a letter head, printed on a t-shirt, or as a tattoo, whatever you require of it.

Considering your registration date, you'd think that you'd be aware of the the teasing/very sarcastic nature of the membership here. By "no effort", people mean that the images look like they were created by a 12 year old in about a half hour; A little airbrushed oval here, some gradient there, slap on the logo and call it a day. Judging by the shear quantity you've been cranking out, I'm sure any one didn't take more than an hour. I've never used Paint.net before, but I'd say that might be part of your problem. I'm very much an amateur when it comes to these things, I only do a quick cut and paste merger of images every now and then, but I know quality and hard work when I see it; this isn't it. If you're just starting out, and want to get better, keep at it and learn to self-criticize. Also, develop a sense of humor, and learn to take things with a grain of salt. Not everyone is going to like your work, even if it is half-decent, but even the harshest and worst criticism usually hides a truth. GBM is a graphics artist by trade, if I'm not mistaken, so I wouldn't expect praise coming from him.
I do have to admit, I'm a bit surprised at your sensitivity here. How do you survive in the big bad internet by taking everything to heart? Hell, how do you survive in the big bad world?

Very few things ever are.
PS. Yes, I do know I'm quoting the guy just above me....Nevermind.
