(/me puts on whining hat)
The tiny arrow before thread link goes to first unread post and the big bloody thread link itself goes to first post in thread. Most retarded linking i have seen in any forum i visit frequently.
To summary sensible / common sense UI:
Most used function => BIG CONVENIENTLY PLACED LINK.
Rarely / if ever used function => tiny linky in some obscure corner of who-cares-land to make space for stuff that actually matters.
Is there hope for fixification?
eg. switch the links.

No, this is the standard function for vBulletin, and while it can be changed I am not going to do so.
Arrows do not appear for threads you have read without new posts, and do not appear for those not logged in. It does not make sense for the same links to do to utterly different places depending on these factors.
So in fact changing it makes for a UI that defies common sense!

I like the little arrow button

The ones here are fine if you ask me.
Think of the poor people on the Off Topic Productions forum (Deus Ex-related).
The last unread post icon is a tiny thing, and the entire rest of the line takes you to the first post, not just the main link - so if you miss the tiny icon by a pixel (which is easy considering that it's tiny), you get taken to the start of the thread.

I disagree.
The proposed change is consistent enough (always tries to bring you to first unread post) for me and damn convenient (meaning - i forget that it doesn't work here so damn too often).
... damn arrow ...
Greasemonkey time then :P

won't somebody please think of the arrows?
zombe, if you prefer not to see the arrow, on any sufficiently advanced browser, you can wipe it out of existence completely by using its block function. Doable on Firefox and Opera, I believe.
EDIT: well, screw you, then.

You missed the point.

There may be holes on the net, TTLG got swallowed in the nothingness for about one whole day, DNS troubles I presume, but not even the IP worked.
