Sooo ignorant.

Yeah Europe does have some cows grown specifically for consumption, but not in the numbers like we have here. You really are paying a premium for that meat though.
RBJ, there's a steakhouse in Delta, Utah you need to visit. The filet mignon is quite exquisite. The ribeye and porterhouse are good too. I forget the name, but it's the only steak house in the town.
FUCK YES! GERMANY DOES HAVE GREAT BREAD.

TBE: I'm planning on a trip to Utah next year, maybe I can take you up on that.
jay: At the end of the day: You don't like steak, and you feel the need to piss in everyone's cornflakes in order to get yourself off. Fine, that's well and good, but you're just being the contentious teenager saying "That sucks" to something just because you yourself can't appreciate it. I'm not being defensive, I'm trying to educate you.
When you claim that it's notable for being monotonous, or that it's best appreciated as a vehicle for sauces, I can anly assume you haven't had a good one, because I know better. Thus the inherent contradiction of your claim of defensiveness: ie. my knowledge is "limited" because I've had great experiences that you haven't? That's like saying "Skiing sucks, all you do is freeze and fall down the mountain and get bumps and bruises." and then claim I'm getting defensive about my limited experience when I tell you that no, it's quite comfortable and when you get good at it, enjoyable. Think that one through and try again, because it's an utter fail on your part.
Sure, you've eaten many many steaks, but when was the last time you went to a good steakhouse that has the time and resources to dry age a steak? Or have you done that yourself? I'm guessing the answer to both of these is never and no. Maybe you'll still hate it. In fact, I'm sure you've already made up your mind that you would, but that's because you can't appreciate the difference. For those of us who can, it's anything but monotonous in flavor and texture. Just chalk it up as a train that's passed you by because you don't know any better, or because your palate simply can't process the flavors.
There's nothing wrong with that, there are plenty of things that I can't appreciate. With respect to both wine and coffee I'm a fucking philistine (Don't tell Scots - I actually like Starbucks), but just because I can't appreciate the subtle nuances at the high end doesn't mean I try to claim that people who do don't know what they're talking about. Your attempt at doing so here is what paints you as ignorant and your opinion as rather useless.

In the UK it is illegal to sell dairy cows for human consumption.
I think the over 30 month rule has been relaxed (can't be bothered to check) but it is still the case that all meat sold for human consumption has to be raised for human consumption.
Oh and the best beef in the world is South African anyway

Sounds to me that you're a culinary Danielle Steele type of gal.
You know, sometimes I rag on you for various reasons but then you completely make up for it with zings like this. I felt that one from over
here.
I wish it was possible for me to get my hands on a real steak. Nobody around here knows how to make one and I have even less cooking skill than Renz. Add to that the fact that I kinda don't like beef (though I'm trying to expand my palate a bit.) By contrast, I love chicken, and good chicken is fairly easy to get.

I had a strikingly similar conversation with a vegetarian friend a long time ago. He said basically that steak by itself wasn't good, it was the sauce that makes a steak. And my reply was that if you absolutely have to eat steak with sauce, you're not eating a good steak. The sauce is there simply to enhance the flavor or add some variety, not cover it up (listen to me sounding like I know what I'm talking about).
See, anything by itself, prepared straight up without any garnishment is going to be pretty damn bland. Like broccolli. I love broccoli. Eat it all the time. But by it by itself, straight out of the garden, uncooked and unprepared, it's not exactly the most tasty stuff in the world. The same could be applied to just about every consumable good besides a select few fruits.
So Jay, what you need to do is eat a good steak. I mean actually go out of your way to track down a good steak house. And eat one that's been cooked well without any sauces. See what you think then.
edit: oh wait, you're English. Try to find a steak that hasn't been boiled and/or overcooked.

You know, it is possible to get a good steak in England...
