We could have an International orgy...

We have some ideas to go along with a renovation of The Hub, however if anyone has any ideas let us know, because it's only any good if you want to read it :p

How do you decide what goes on the homepage as opposed to any of TTLG's other sites or forums?:)

In CommChat there are currently three threads about sex (in one way or another) on the top. That could be a hint :p (Even "Through the Looking Glass" could be given a whole new meaning then).
Ok -- dangerous sarcasm aside, trying to be more constructive:
Taking one step back, why is it that the front page hasn't been fed with news? Nothing new (noteable) from any descendants of LG? sshock2.com was once meant to give an overview about SciFi games in general - and hardly any news about from that genre.
Does TTLG need another target group?

BioShock news could be good material for the front page I think.
I know TTLG stands for Through the Looking Glass, but IG (BioShock's developer) worked on System Shock 2 with Looking Glass so it would fit pretty nicely.
We could rename TTLG to TTLGaIG; Through the Looking Glass and Irrational Games, heh. :p

I think TTLG has an identity crisis at the moment. The company has been under for quite awhile now, and with the original developers being spread out so much, it's not as simple anymore to track and decide on which games to cover.
I've oft considered this place a home for smarties with a taste for depth, and perhaps that's the direction the main page should aim for (we're already covering Stalker and Arkane games here). Current quality-enriched titles that have the community excited. I believe that is still in the spirit of Looking Glass, and reflects the title appropriately.

The question of what to do with the main hub has been a conversation several of us have been having for more than a few months in the Staff Discussion forum.
The bottom line is that we're not entirely sure what direction to take things -- perhaps this is as good a time as any to open up the floor for suggestions.
Here are some basic criteria:
1) whatever we do with the main hub, it's got to be interesting to more than just the majority of forum members. We want to create something enticing and bookmark-worthy, not a weird circlejerk for the forums (qv Something Awful)
2) whatever we do with the main hub, it has to be sustainable. That is to say it will need to be maintained, updated frequently, and worth reading on a daily basis. Whether this means daily features and weekly articles or whatever, the main point here is that it will require ongoing quality submissions
3) whatever we do with the main hub will help us redefine TTLG's niche. We're all aware of the stagnant doom that plagues the Looking Glass Studios Gravesite Network. We've begun focussing on what we feel are similar (though not a man jack among us can articulate what this similarity is, I'll warrant, which is one of the biggest parts of this problem) games and companies like Arkane and Irrational and Bethesda... but we're doing so with very short-range thinking and without a coherent vision. Unfortunately, short-range thinking and no coherent vision is currently the only thing we can do until we have this very discussion with the Membership At Large.
I'll happily welcome and discuss any suggestions, provided they're not stupid. We want to create a main site that reflects the interests of the community we've got here... while retaining the focus on PC Gaming, obviously.
But it's got to be something people want to read, otherwise a) nobody will have any motivation to keep writing for the hub and b) if no one wants to read it what's the point anyway?
Personally, I'd like to see articles and analysis and humour on the front page. High-quality and trustworthy reviews, interesting articles about hardware and software, and above all REGULAR FEATURES. Regular features are what keep people coming back to a site. Trouble with regular features is that someone's got to write something GOOD on a weekly basis at the least.
Anyway... I'm hereby commandeering this thread so that we can have a serious, hopeful, and productive community brainstorm as regards the main hub. Never mind about the daughter sites or the forums for the time being unless it's absolutely germane to the suggestion.
Unhelpful or stupid suggestions will either get deleted or mocked until the person who came up with them cries.
Helpful and awesome suggestions will be taken extremely seriously.
