From what little I know about Grooveshark, yes.
You can dl tracks for offline play.

I don't know what Grooveshark is either. I remember Muxtape where you'd just click the link and it'd go to a page & start a playlist. That's what I assumed this was, except the playlist could be collaboratively built instead of it just being from one person.

The only issue I have with Spotify is synching the tracks I have on the PC with the mobile.
I can DL tracks to the mobile for offline usage fine, as long as they are not on my PC. If I try to synch local tracks it seems to work fine for a bit and then they are just skipped.
This is especially frustrating as sometimes I have one track from an album that Spotify seems to preferentially view as a local file when if I didn't have the local file it would DL the Spotify version to the mobile.
I know I'm doing something wrong but I can't work out what it is! Help!

No, it's not like Muxtape. And yes, it is like Grooveshark. Except easier to use, less bloated-feeling, and all the audiotracks are encoded at the same quality/volume. And it's legal. (
http://grooveshark.com/) Grooveshark isn't a bad alternative though, I use it myself whenever I wanna listen to music on a computer that doesn't have Spotify installed.

Spotify is quite useless now after the change, if you don't pay for it.

Well news is it launches in the US today. It's 10.30am here (at the realtime) so I guess the US hasn't woken up to this yet.
Ex-colony, we await your musical exposition through the medium of the collaborative playlist.

If any of you jolly yanks want an invite I have got a buttload* of them. Just send me a PM and I'll hook you up.
Of course as Kuuso points out the free version is a bit limited, but if you're serious about listening to music(on a computer) then getting the 5 bucks per month Unlimited version is a no-brainer.

I'm quite enjoying our playlist. By which I do of course mean 'taking it over with tracks suggested by Kieron Gillen and Phonogram'.
Aerothorn on 6/8/2011 at 02:50
I'm confused - how does one search for the new playlist?
Meanwhile, I'd like to import playlists I made for my radio show, but sadly I used at least a couple super-obscure/unpublished songs per list, so they'll pretty much be incomplete by default. But I'll see what I can do.
Edit: Double confused now. If you make a playlist using local files, are those sharable?

Aero, I PM'd you the link with the collaborative version of our playlist. After all troll-infestation we had in the beginning we keep it "invite only". The link on page 1 is a standard locked playlist which I update from time to time with the new tracks that people have added to the collab-playlist.
And no, your local tracks will not show up for other people.
Matthew, I'm not too keen on celtic stuff but I did enjoy the string of tracks you added a month ago. Especially the spoken-word track and "The Gates". :cheeky: Listening to your new additions now. All solid stuff! :thumb:
Also have you guys noticed an influx of added albums on Spotify recently? CSS debut is finally up(I know you Britts have had it earlier but it wasn't available in Finland till this week) and so is WolfParade's entire discograpy. I've been waiting for those to show up for years now. :)
