Since Elenkis pointed out to me that vB is British software, something else I could not explain suddenly made sense to me.
Remember when we switched from UBB to vB? For a short time (a couple of days I think), the forums said all times were GMT, but the times were in reality EST. Then somebody pointed that out, and it was fixed.
So: the forum software always says that all times are GMT, but in reality, it gets the time from the server it's installed on. And this copy of vB is installed onto a server which has EST as its timezone. It was pushed 5 hours forward to make it actual GMT instead of EST-called-GMT, but it will still switch to daylight savings when America switches.
You want a forum that switches when Britland switches? Get vB and install it onto a British server. :p

Yup, that's correct. There's an option in vBulletin's admin control panel that asks "What timezone is the server in?", the default setting is GMT so unless changed it assumes that whatever time it is for the server is GMT.

Buh. I would have believed a full hour difference... but 30 minutes?
There's something odd here, and it might be my PC, but I'm not sure...there are couple of wonky time zones that are out of sync by half an hour ... one such is Newfoundland's time zone here in Canada. They're 30 mins ahead of the eastern seabord, although it sounds like they're always behind on the news.
"The world ends at 8 ... 8:30 in Newfoundland."
