Hey, guys let's have the TTLG intellectual discussion about our book choice!
Or how about not.

Speaking of Stephenson, I've been stuck part of the way through System of the World for over a year now, after being a bit burnt out trying to tackle the Baroque Cycle all at once. And then after the rip roarin' action packed adventure of Book 2 (need more Shaftoe, too dumb to follow constant Newton talk), the slowdown of System threw me off for a bit. I need to get back on it, great stuff overall.
Oh yeah, and then I'll read Cryptonomicon.

Huh... people are actually using those quotes from the Chandler book as a reason to vote FOR it? :p Ah well. Voted for Lolita myself (read it before but it's INCREDIBLE, so worth another read); still have my fingers crossed for that one. But I have a feeling I'll be reading gritty detective stuff next month.
I knew this poll was trouble as soon as she walked into my office.

We initially had sixteen suggestions total, but our poll capabilities can't handle more than nine...
The poll can now handle 20 options. :)

\o/ - yeah! I wanna change the poll to include my book now. I wanna I wanna I wannaaa! Na only kidding - it is no problem. I voted master and commander as this is probably the only way i would read that book - but I suppose if  wins out I can do  I guess the seriousness or light-hearted nature of the selection will flux through the months anyany.

I've got a copy of this waiting for me, in a box with about thirty other books I've yet to read. I'll be suggesting most of them for this book club at one turn or another because they were atypical purchases.

I voted Lolita obviously. Let me persuade the un-decided to vote my way.
I think this book lends itself towards discussion and dissection.
There's the emotional awesomeness of being torn between how you think you should feel and how the book makes you feel. There's the sexyness of the way the sex, infatuation and obsession are written contrasted with the uneasy and wrong nature of it. There's empathy where you previously believed there should be condemnation and vice versa. I love this story, I love the way Nabakov writes and I love the way his writing makes me feel.

Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking that those who voted for 'Lolita' should be linked very quickly to the 'Dumbest Paedophiles Ever' Thread...
Just me being controvertial as usual...
