If it's such a short book, why not pick two books for September. I finished the Chandler more than a week ago and I still think I'm a slow reader.

Because the point of the book club is not to dominate all your free reading :P - a single short book is fine. Particularly for those of us who are in school and have assigned reading (grrrrr).
And for what it's worth, tungsten, I don't think anyone is going to make you read it if you don't want to :). I don't think this is the sort of book club that kicks you out if you skip a month.
