Totally pleased to see enders game in the lead. I actually just read The Speaker for the dead last week (which is a "sequal") and I really enjoyed it. It was written to be read by itself, and it has some great commentary in the beginning on the whole lifetime of the series and how each of the 3 books came into being and the whole writing process, which was cool.
Now Ill have good reason to go back and read the first book :D
Edit: Damn, just noticed it wasnt in the lead, my vote made it tied. Either way, the other books that might win Im sure are all good too.

THE POINT OF THIS CLUB IS TO READ BOOKS YOU HAVEN'T READ BEFORE

People voting for books they themselves have read loads of times also seems rather contrary to the whole idea of what the book club is supposed to be about, regardless of whether or not it's genre fiction. I'd read the rather interesting Dante's Inferno just a year or two ago but I didn't vote because I'm not going to skew the voting by my previous reads.
Reposting because I tried to stop this horrible effect ten or so posts ago. :(
I could feel your pain.
The worst part is, those that will have voted for books they've read over and over again often have the least to say about them.

I've read my pick 20 years ago, so I guess that's ok.

It's better than okay, it's a perfectly awesome suggestion.
There's really nothing wrong with suggesting or voting for a book you've already read at some point. While this book club was created in part so that we could stretch outside our literary comfort zone, there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to reread and discuss a book from your past.
On the other hand, however, this book club is not an excuse for someone to reread his/her favorite book for the tenth time.

As opposed to all those prohibitively expensive books at your local library?

I hate to be a poor sport, but I think if Ender's Game wins I'm gonna have to pass - I mean, I guess it's been...I dunno how many years since I've read it. 5? But I still remember it a bit (including the 'big twist') and am not sure I'm ready to re-read it.

I'll re-read it, but I won't be happy about it.
