Isn't it ok to simply start the discussion now?
TheAlbaniac: What exactly was wrong with the ending for you? I'm asking, because I liked it very much. Somewhere around the middle of the book I got the idea that Chabon is actually talking about the relationship between a writer and his creations, reflected in the book by the relation of dads and their kids. And since Sammy seems to be the writer in this book, I think it was very fitting to let him vanish in the end, after he had taken care of his friends/ the characters of the story.
From a more inside point of view I liked it that in comparison with the stories of Joe, Rosa and the others, who had a great introduction (doubled with their introduction as comic heroes), Sammy's real story seems only to start now. It balances the book very nicely in my opinion.
I really enjoyed reading this book, with it's brilliant imagination and loving sense for detail. Thanks for the suggestion!
