Are you having a session this afternoon?
Thirith on 7/12/2013 at 11:59
I'm not - I've scheduled one for Saturday 14/12, though - but I'm happy for the rest of the gang to play, obviously. Anyone with a moderately fast connection should be able to host a game.
Anyone who'd like to play, make sure to check out and join the group on Steam ((
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ArmaTTLG)). Once you've joined, I can give you the necessary rights so you can schedule your own games as well.

That voice chat not working at the beginning thing was weird. I managed to crash steam after messing with the settings for a while and had to restart the whole PC, and then it worked for some reason. Also, sorry if I was a bit passive, most of the time when I spotted an enemy or something one of you called it already, not to mention that I always find urban fighting super confusing. :)
EDIT: Also, who's who on this forum? I didn't recognise your steam names (apart from Thririth of course:))

Croc (in the game) is Neb. Satire is a guest from the Folk ARPS community (where Neb plays pretty regularly, I think, and I play every now and then). Jason Moyer joins in occasionally, but lately he hasn't been able to.
I'm glad you were able to join eventually, with working voice chat. I'm still finding MP Arma confusing at times - great fun, and I hope I'm improving, but I don't yet have the experience nor the presence of mind to be particularly good. Most of the time I'm glad if I'm not getting killed myself or getting others killed. :-D That Zargabad mission was an odd one; most of the missions we've played are less immediately chaotic.

Hey, no, it's all good. That mission was also a lot different to what we usually play. So much going on.

Question for you, Neb: you use Play withSIX, right? Are there any good guides on how to go from downloading individual mods and choosing them in-game to PWS? I have to say I'm not finding the programme altogether clear...
Neb on 17/12/2013 at 07:01
I never managed to work out Play WithSIX so I can't help you unfortunately. :laff: It's so maddeningly unintuitive, and all of the guides I tried were outdated enough to be nonsensical. I'm installing mods manually and using Arma 2 Launcher to start them.
(I am thinking about making a little script to automatically unzip downloaded mods and sort the folders out properly.)

Ah, I thought I might have confused you with Satire... (To be fair, I am juggling three different names for you, so it's easy to get confused. :p ) Will ask him if he's got some pointers. From what I can see, PWS has some great functionality, e.g. auto-updating mods, but the UI is abysmal. I would have thought that you'd have to be wilfully malicious to design a UI like that.
I've got a bunch of different islands and other mods, and at the moment almost all of them are active all the time, but especially for MP I'm hoping to find a better solution that allows me to have a couple of setups relatively easily. Will give the Arma 2 Launcher a try.

It's super easy to just tick the ones you want active and then create a desktop shortcut. I can't say I've ever had problems with needing to update mods, and seeing as it's Arma - if something works I leave it as it is because I don't want it to mysteriously break. The CBA version mismatches didn't matter when we played on Saturday because everything which uses it was only running client-side and didn't affect the server.

Thanks! After you mentioned it, I ended up installing it this afternoon, and it's a major improvement to doing everything in the game - plus the UI doesn't require a PhD in Quantum Physics or Advanced Psychosis like Play withSIX.
By the way, would people perhaps be interested in the occasional game on the Sahrani map, using the CAA1 mod, or any other maps? I'm still pretty new to MP and it takes me a long time to get bored of things, but if anyone has seen enough of Chernarus and Takistan and would like to change up the maps, I'm happy to go with that.
