TTLG and I - Then and Now. - by Mr.Duck

Close to ten years too, hard to believe it :) I changed a lot of nicknames since Dec. 2000
TTLG gave me the excuse for the best road-trip ever, for which I'll be forever thankful. I met so many wonderful people here and those who left I do miss a lot.
You're all a wonderful bunch you bastards, even the jerks, and I wouldn't have it any other way :thumb:

Well, to whoever's ten years or not ten years, here's to ten more of:
- imaginin' rats or something
- having too much coffee this morning, and being twitchy as 'ell
- staying out of the 'ton, bro, regarding the assorted bad shit that may or may not be going down
- here's lookin' at you, hacker, as you run through my "corridors"
- big black rubber dicks, rubber, you nderstand
- Almalexia is a psycho about morrowind sex (are you happy now?)
- additional things
- ttlg
- god dammit
Thief brought me here in the very late nineties. And if it ever runs reliably on my system, Thief will being me back. And if it doesn't, the occasional alcohol binge and a previously mentioned sense of homeness most certainly will. That is of course, if I ever leave, which I won't.
This is terrible vodka, really. Good god, why do I subject myself to this five dollar crap

what's a decade of horrible sexual repression spilling over into everyday conversation between friends

Your epic wang is dangling a lot around here.
10 years and counting. My original join date was about Dec 99 - Jan 00. I can't remember. But when the board went down and people rejoined, I didn't rejoin for a few months.
I love the place, and wouldn't change much around here. Cept for Avatars! :sly:

I first joined up something like 8 or 9 months after Thief came out, to ask some inane question. I think the server died or moved a couple of times over the next year or so and that all got lost. There was still the same crowd that I lurked around watching; complaining about the n00bs like me who weren't there at the beginning, back with the even older forum host (can't remember what that was called). It took about five years for me to actually notice that only about six months or so separated us. I'm still a n00b though really.
I've been to loads of other places around the net since and it's kind of stunning how few have this intelligent, healthily anarchic vibe. There's some but they're so rare. (I also still can't believe that people manage to spawn their internet lives in creepy, cloistered, unspoiled Stepfords that they wish TTLG would become, but anyway). Some good ones died in the crash. Some were (are) nice but corporate bubble universes that delete their old posts (Eidos). ION Storm had some promise, but well...
So the bi-annual TTLG is: dying/no fun anymore/full of meanies/full of pinkos/full of itself chats come and go. And so do people. Things have changed for sure (my world gone from 'Internet? No. What are you? Some sort of weirdo" to "I'm sorry, I don't talk to anyone not on facebook. What are you? Some sort of weirdo?") but the core of TTLG seems the same to me. Unsullied by trends and fads and gimmicks. It's definitely doing something right.

Sorry, can't. But it probably would have a heavy case of FAS :p

Congratulations on your decade here, Patito. I still keep a printed version of the post you sent me after my son died. It's on the wall of my office and reminds me that out of the impersonal internet beautiful things can come. Your words were more than most family gave me during that horrible time.
Thanks, too, for offering up a post that is attracting some of the olde guarde. Muzman's throbbing tongue, Schechter's sly wit, Vasquez's awesome sarcasm, Scot's honest humor, and Medlar's solid Cornish (Carnwelsch) outlook...love 'em all. And that nod to Fluke shocked me--thanks.
Here's to another ten years, Patito.
Oh, and good thing you (tm)'d "Nuthaus", Patito, cuz that's one of my few, enduring contributions to this place!

And lets not get started on the Starchat Channels....sheesh.
It's just dawned on me that I have a huge number of those logs, as I always copy my mIRC folder rather than reinstalling each time.
