I don't think I've ever had non-DDfix widescreen support in TFix - though it should be possible, if you manage to pull Darkwidescreen from somewhere. anyway, I'm certainly not messing with these things in the main build of the patcher - the current legacy executables should be more than enough for anyone wanting to run on win9x or whatever.

Why are you trying to run OldDark?
In the case of Thief 1, you'd get the original AI. Whereas with Thief 2, NewDark requires the 1.18 patch which made some changes to the OMs over the original release, such as I believe replacing spiders with rats in Framed, and changing AI routes in Shipping, and a few other things.
I realise this sort of thing will not be of interest to 99.9% of players, but I suppose I would have liked to try to ghost the original AI in T1 (having never ghosted any Thief game other than the reboot), and play the original T2 as a curiosity piece.
So it looks like my options are to dig out my old XP CD and try to create a dual-boot system, and probably get stuck with basic drivers for my cards, or just forget OldDark. Oh well, if that's the way it is that's the way it is. Thanks for the answers.

a win9x retro machine is what you need.

What changes were made to the AI in T1?

Well when Looking Glass was developing T1 the AI was mostly changed from "not existing" to "existing".
