Didn't want to ask this on the official Tfix thread as this is an unsupported matter, but maybe someone can help.
Installed GoG version of Thief Gold plus Tfix 1.23 with legacy executables.
Whether I run the ddfix or no ddfix executable the main menu appears zoomed in so that only the top part and top few options are visible onscreen.
Any suggestions? TIA.
(yes yes I know it would be so much simpler to just use NewDark)

try the oldDark noDDFix exe with (
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2.html) dgVoodoo (it's a glide/early dx to dx11 wrapper).
alternatively, try to run ddfixed + windowed.

Thanks. Did try the wrapper and that worked in the sense of I could now see all the gamescreen rather than just the top part. But the image was being stretched sideways into a widescreen form, the mouse movement was "juddery", and the movies would not play.
If anyone out there knows a fix for any of this please let me know.

Install Windows 98 SE, which is better than Windows 98.
If that doesn't work then you'd better stick to NewDark.

I think you've misread his post, he is trying to get it working on windows8, not windows98. you know, windows8, the first windows with that metro interface thing everybody hates.

pretty sure I'm the only person insane enough to still mess around with T1 oldDark, and I'm quite sure there isn't one. but as always, feel free to goof around, and bring whatever pain awaits unto yourself.

I didn't misread his thread. I only proposed a drastic and effective way for him in order to play OldDark without a hitch.
I was being ironic, but many times being ironic doesn't work especially when writing. Sorry.

the legacy executables do the same thing, no need for 1.10.

There's no widescreen support.

Why are you trying to run OldDark?
