Funny. Of course you could do this for any city (although not in the same way exactly; at least each city gets to have its own unique dullness).
Some of those pictures have a certain poignancy, though, because they are so matter-of-fact, like the cracked wall or just a dull picture of nothing but small snowflakes, one of them labeled Helsinki in tiny letters -- like in a "dancing garbage in American Beauty" sort of way.

All I really know about life in Finland is that according to Ilkka Kokkarinen of (
http://sixteenvolts.blogspot.com/) Sixteen Volts, Canada is way better. I prefer places where winter is only about 3 months out of the year.

Man, that was a bunch of unoriginal crap.

You're saying that just because you were in more than one of those photos.

It's worth mentioning that among the uninteresting shots of alcohol-induced stupidity, there are pictures of actual homeless people. "You could do this for any city" - except Helsinki. Until now. Homeless people are a brand new feature in this country, and their numbers are rising.
So here we live in something that still calls itself a welfare state, but is in fact trying to emulate USA-style ultra-liberal economic policies. Nobody cares about the less fortunate as long as the country does well in a business-oriented (

star beast = tähtipeto
arches of frost = huurrekaaret or huurreholvit
dark matter = pimeä aine

I actually interviewed a couple of homeless old men on the streets of Helsinki and asked them that if government would give you a home right now, would you move in?, and they answered no. So I dunno. Pretty weird people in here if you ask me.
