Tutorial1 doesn't run at all it should be pointed out, even with others working, if that's what people are having problems with.

This is the log after I get the runtime error when trying to play my test map 'testy01' which is just a cube room with a light and a player start.

Worked for me too.

A small tip that might be helpful to those of you running ZoneAlarm or similar software:
Launching the game from inside the editor causes ZA to ask about the program wanting to run as a server on port 25001, which appears to halt the loading process. Unfortunately--on XP at least--the Thief program will not relinquish focus to any of the standard techniques (Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Start menu key, et. al.), so actually dealing with the dialogue can be problematic. I used a proprietary key on my Logitech keyboard that brings up the Welcome screen.

Despot you are my hero!
I disabled ZA and now I can play my map 'Testy' and walk around (it's so interesting walking around a cube). Now I know that ZA is the culprit I can give permission to the file manually to avoid this obstacle.

I second that. Bravo! I was having the same lock-up and Zone Alarm was the culprit.
Now if only it didn't take so loooooong to load a level consisting of only a single room and one light!
Also: anyone know how to enable the loading bar graphic from the retail version of the game, so it's easier to tell if it's a long load or a computer freeze?

Sure, my first FM screenshot: ETA 2007. :P
I wish I didn't have so much coursework to do at the moment, the timing couldn't be any worse! Funnily enough though, my final year project is recreating the Computer Science building in UnrealEd, so at least I'll pick up some skills along the way.
Oh and Despot, I must have the same Logitech keyboard as you, as I pressed the User key (with the moon on it) to get back to the welcome screen. It was then a case of just giving that darn ZA popup permission for T3Main to access those ports.
