I'd edited the T3 DDS textures before with my now-lost mission, without any problem, using the Nvidia DDS tools. With my HD crash, I've had to grab the latest versions of the tools (dated end of June, this year). However, now everything is problematic - the textures won't even extract properly. The texture output is stretched horizontally, and all wrong in color - not negative, because that doesn't correct them. I'm using/will continue to use the command line tools, FYI. On a related note, Richard Burns Rally DDS textures come out the same way but also with 8 mip levels contained in the same image, and a ton of wasted vertical space - it was not this way before. Unfortunately, the readdxt application doesn't seem to have /? help.
Is anyone else using these newer versions, and if so, are you having the same problems? Are the old versions out there for download in some official capacity? Does anyone know what the hell is going on with this?

Damn.. not a single reply? So either no one is editing textures, no one is having problems and/or has tried the new nvidia files, or no one cares to answer. :laff:
Probably number two. :erg:

sorry, don't have an answer for you. I've been editing them using the nvidia plug-in for Photoshop, but no problems.

I've not had any problems either, though I think if you open images with mip maps in photoshop they appear as you describe them ... I don't think all that empty space is actually wasted in the texture ... it's just photoshops way of displaying the information.
If you are talking about the photoshop dds filter then I wasn't even aware it had changed  The one I am using (dds.8bi) in ... plug-ins\File Formats\ and is 712 kb and time stamped 25/03/2005 13:48, if you would like to compare yours.
If it is different I could email it you? PM yr details if you need it ...
cheers

I had trouble initially but found that I was using an older version of the plugin. Using this URL below as a guide I had obtained an older version of nVidias pluging from the UDN.
Linkage for guide:

Downloading the latest version from nVidias developer download section solved this problem. I do however remember a blurb on nVidias site about Direct X problems using Windows browsers to view .dds formats. Might be worth looking into...
I have sucessfully converted Thief1/Gold/TDP textures as well as UT/UT2k3 and Quake3 textures that work just fine In T3ED.
On a side note.. once you start converting textures you really do realise how bland and washed out Thief DS textures look.

Heh, sorry guys, I wasn't trying to guilt anyone into answering. :o
I've been using the command line tools, and it sounds like everyone else is using the plugins. Crud. Well, I've contacted the author and he's actually been quite receptive - he said he's looking into what might be the problem.
I really hope it's the new version of the tools, because this is perplexing as to what else it could be - I haven't changed driver versions (as if that had anything to do with it at all), I'm using the same editors, and I'm seeing the symptoms across multiple games which I've edited for before without any problem (T3 and RBR).

I wasn't losing my mind - the command line tools were defective. Fixed them with Doug at Nvidia, in case anyone cares. Should be in the next official release version.
