I finally got around to playing the first one. I have it and Trine 2. I find it very boring tbh.

I haven't played the first one in years, so my memories of it are rather vague. The actual gameplay and the puzzles must have been quite simple. I remember Trine 2 being a big improvement over it, in just about every single way. Trine 3 might be worth skipping if Trine really isn't your thing, but if you liked Trine 2, then you might want to check out Trine 4.

My issue so far is, it's very by the numbers. Now all games have an element of this but this is too ponderous with not enough freedom.
I like the idea, but the puzzles would need to allow for real emergent gameplay to grab me.
The controls on the XBox controller are bad too. I might look into remapping.

Playing this with Jesh and Sulph.

Progress is slow.

Haha, that's great henke. :D Which one of you is the naughty one?
I finished the Melody of Mystery DLC last night. It was well worth the fiver or whatever I paid for it (in most games you could buy new hats for the characters for that price), I think it took me around six or seven hours, and I've still got a few secrets to find. In general I really like the new content, and even though it doesn't really add any new features to the game, I'm satisfied with just "more of the same". The only downside is that you start the DLC with all the skills from the main game, which makes solving the puzzles less fun, I think. The magnetic shield of Pontus especially is a bit of a game breaker; it often feels that there's the "proper" way to solve a puzzle, and then there's the magnetic shield way to solve it that's like turning on the easy mode. Having to resort to the latter feels a bit disappointing, but on the other hand the magnetic shield is used for a couple of clever puzzles too.
I think they missed a great opportunity to do something about the battles too. They're still not very fun, and this time there aren't even proper boss fights.

Yup, DLC seemed pretty good so far.
Here's some video from the main game I just realized I hadn't posted yet:

Haha great videos, but man I'd forgotten about that end boss. That was an ordeal. What did it takes us, 30 attempts?

We wrapped up the Trine 4 DLC last night. Final boss was way easier than in the main game. Here's me, Jesh and Sulphur solving one of the particularly tricky puzzles.

Yeah, that was a Trine game alright. Fun gameplay, amazing graphics, and a story that I couldn't recall if you held a gun to my head.

FYI, this is a featured game in the current Humble Monthly subscription bundle.
