Happy I could help at 1:10 there!
But yeah so far it's been great fun and half of that charm is the attempts to break the game when the straightforward solution eludes you.

I think in singleplayer you just have to jump off and shoot that while falling to your doom.
If you want to survive it, you need multiple players... but not the ones that you brought!

You mean it isn't a PvP game? :o
I was flummoxed by the disappearance of Zoya's rope when I was trying to give it some slack, but it turns out that she cancels ropes at the edge of a ledge because she drops down and hangs on instead. Anyway yeah, it's as reliably charming and pretty as anything in the series, and lets us conjure boxes to boosh people off edges with - pretty much what we I wanted!
It's not going to set your world on fire if you didn't like the other Trines, but the puzzling and physics futzing around is honestly the best part of it, and I'm glad there's more of it to experience.

Finished Trine 4.
It continues pretty much as I said. Nice scenery, annoying battles, lots of simple puzzles.
It's a shame that they never quite use the mechanics for anything really complicated.
I didn't find the music as memorable as in previous Trine games. It's there and it's nice enough, but nothing came close to tracks like The Tower of Sarek and The Giant Dragon.

Finally started playing Trine 4!
I think I had almost unrealistically high expectations for this game, so I've been delighted to find out that it hasn't let me down so far. :) The return to 2.5D was indeed the right move by Frozenbyte, it just works so really well. And once again they've totally managed to nail that fairytale look - at this point in time, Trine 4 is certainly the most beautiful game that I've ever played.

There are also a lot of nice little secrets to discover, and lots of change in the environments. Can't wait to play more, but I try to not rush through the game, because Trine 4 is such a special case for me and deserves to be savoured.

My play through here was distracted by
Kingdom Come, but when I got that out of the way, I had time to return to Trine 4. And now I'm done with this as well.

And like I said in my previous post, this one's certainly the prettiest one so far. The soundtrack is top notch as I expected, but the tracks aren't as memorable as before.
Trine 4 is all about the puzzles, and there's a very nice variety of them as the characters learn new skills. They're also much more logical than before, and you can't "brute force" your way through as easily as before, which is a very good thing. However, about halfway through the game I still started finding the puzzles a bit too repetitive, so taking a little break was probably a good decision - after that the game felt fresh again and getting through the rest of it was an absolute pleasure. A lot of the puzzles are very simple; quite often you can figure out the "solution" at the first glance when you enter a new room, so these puzzles are only there to slow you down, I guess. I don't mind that at all though, it gives you more time to admire the gorgeous views.
It's a shame that the combat in Trine 4 is probably the worst in the series. The battles are probably supposed to come as a surprise, but most of the time I knew when I was entering a "battle area". A couple of platforms appear in a fairly small area that you can't exit, the screen gets full of monsters, and you just gotta hack your way through them. Apart from some of the boss fights (that are actually pretty fun) there's not much strategy involved, not even quick reflexes or anything. So combat is by far the worst thing about the game, I can't understand how they've messed it up like that. It's not
terrible, but I can't remember a single non-boss fight that was fun.
I was positively surprised by Trine 4, even though it doesn't really offer anything new. A lot of the things are just more polished and more pretty. If there's ever going to be Trine 5, I think I'd be very happy even if it was "just" more of the same. :)

Ooh, I just found out that there's some new DLC coming out in a couple of months!

It's just six new levels apparently, but I'll be happy to play any new content that they release. The Goblin Menace DLC for Trine 2 for example was totally awesome, so I hope that Melody of Mystery lives up to my expectations. There'll be new music of course, some new skills and "puzzle elements", but they better fix the combat as well... :)

Eh?! Turns out that the Melody of Mystery DLC has been released today (on PC)! The video description was a bit confusing, claiming that it'll be released in Spring 2021, but that's for the consoles apparently.
Now I didn't even have time to get hyped for this. :erg:
Anyway, at less than €6.50 (on Humble Store) this is an insta-buy for me. I'll let you people know later how awesome it is!

Finished the first of the six levels. It's a dreamworld kind of a level (walking on clouds, flying dogs, lots of teleport puzzles, floating in space...), and as these were my least favourite missions in the main game, I was a tiny bit disappointed at first. Soon I realised how fun it is to be playing Trine again, and despite of this level feeling a bit too similar, I really enjoyed it. Playing through the whole level while trying to carefully explore everything (but missing a secret or two apparently) took me more than an hour, so there's quite a lot of content here if the rest of the levels are as big!
Can't say much about the new game mechanics yet, the puzzles so far have been pretty much the same. There have been a couple of good puzzles as well as a few ridiculously simple ones, and also some that I've managed to solve in a way that didn't feel quite right. The new skills don't seem that special, they're more like upgrades to the existing skills, but I'll have to wait until I try them. The battles are unfortunately still the same, but maybe a bit more challenging which is the only positive change.
The music is still beautiful, some of the scenery looks just amazing, and the fairytale story with some light-hearted humour are typical Trine - just the way I like it. I had a quick peek at the beginning of the second level, and the setting there seems much more interesting. I'd like to play more but I'm gonna take a break now so that I don't finish this too quickly. :)
