What about locks that can't be picked?
Or do those already exist?

I don't think they existed before but they can now. With the new key/ KeyRing system, you don't even need a lock open strength, you just lock the door and the appropriate keys simply open it. So, I'm assuming that by just setting a door to blslocked and not assigning a lock strength will render the lock unpickable. Really opens up a wide variety of possibilities. :) We're talking about having some true to Thief systems now.

Going off topic for a second. I didn't want to start a new thread.
I think I've found a nice compromise for 'loot glimmer'. A vast majority of 'items' in the game have what I would call, an item shimmer. I remember thinking to myself numerous times, that this would have been far more appropriate for loot and that the items, like scrolls, books, etc...really didn't need anything.
That being said, I have done just that.
I removed 'loot glimmer' from all loot and have replaced it with 'loot shimmer'. I also removed the 'shimmer' from regular items. I have to say, it's much more subtle...almost believeable that loot would shimmer...except for paintings but it's passable....and it seems to only fire off around every 10 seconds...so it's not as in your face that way either.
At any rate, I might try including it in the next version of Minimalist so people can get used to it before I have the installer ready. Kind of a nice balance between having and not having it.

Will it be based on proximity (the way glint is now, IIRC)? I might go with minimalist from now on, since every single tweak I'd made over the year was lost with my HD crash. If there is an option between the two, even better.
Edit: Also - are these new keys and lockpick functionalities going into minimalist, or just the T3Ed installer?
I still wonder what problems (if any) there will be for missions built without minimalist as the based when played on minimalist systems (with and without gamesys replacement) and missions built with minimalist as the base, played on non-minimalist systems (with and without gamesys replacement).

Nope, this version won't be proximity based but it's so subtle that I don't think it's going to be like the homing beacon from accross the room lootglint was. :) It's the type of thing that you might catch from the corner of your eye and think...'hmmm, did I just see something?'. It's a little more obvious on paintings since they're so big but it's a trade off.

Anything from here on out....aside from the new loot shimmer...will only be for the T3Ed installer, unless I can easily add it to minimalist. Adding the new key systems would require rebuilding all the maps. Not worth the trouble. :)

People won't need Minimalist as the new T3Ed installer will have everything integrated right into it. Whether people are going to be willing to switch over to this version is another question entirely. With the T1 and 2 style key/ key ring systems, the Inventory book system and further refining the old style hud...the installer is going to bring home the look and functions of the earlier games. Not sure if everyone is going to like it but it is what I'm going to build. I'm also reorganizing some of the existing triggerscripts into more obvious groups. I want more user friendlienss and I plan to include a windows help file with relevant walkthroughs and screen shots. I want this to work and look like a professional product.

I REALLY like that key ring system. Great work! :thumb:

Thanks for the Query/When clarification, Krypt! I hadn't actually realised that two Whens at once would be a problem. :) I've noticed you don't often get thanked for your posts, but I for one am grateful that you're passing on your knowledge to us. Please do keep it up. :thumb:
New Horizon - Nice work, both on the keyring and the loot glint replacement. Is the new loot shimmer the same as that odd bluish highlight that runs over enemies periodically, by any chance? (It's most noticeable on the
completely-black enemies (I forget what they're called) that are in the past, in the
Cradle mission.)
GlasWolf - You mean you never tried to open a door to escape an approaching enemy, only to be swung right out in the open in front of said enemy (and subsequently spotted and attacked) because the door was locked? :p Mucho annoying.

Enemies never approach me... I approach them. :ebil:

I can't take all the credit for that. Definately not. :) I wouldn't have figured it out without the help of the guys here on the forum, Krypt and Raen/ Sledge.
The new loot 'shimmer' looks like the occasional shimmer that you see on important books and scrolls in the original missions. It's kind of a translucent pale white overlay that fires ever ten seconds or so. Quite subtle compared to the glint. You will really have to be observant to spot them in a dark room...and i think being observant is what Thief is all about. :) When/ If someone replaces the loot textures with stuff that is more easily recognizable, I would suggest using it.
