in the guide, it says, and i quote," Lighting trees on fire and healing rocks will never advance your skills, no matter how entertaining it might be."-unquote. is there a way to light trees on fire? i have tried multiple spells, but none worked. there was an old tree on fire near a gate to oblivion, but thats it. anyone have any ideas?

I think it's saying that you can't do what you did in Morrowind. For a spell to 'count' towards levelling up, it actually has to be effective (i.e., cause damage). Since a tree cannot take damage, and a rock cannot heal, this isn't effective.
You can't just fire off a hundred fireballs and expect to level up.

Yah now it makes seens to me but you can cast a sheild a few times to get to level 79 in alteration im almost 80 but yah when you are just walking around do that same with Conjuration ,Restoration and Mysticism. Easy way to get up in those is low level spell cast about 100 times gets you up like 5 levels.

Heh, yeah.
What this amounts to is if you want to level up a spell like destruction, you have to use a low level fireball and run around serious samming everything.

Yeah, but you can still level up by standing in one place and doing jumping-jacks.
